Microsoft Windows PowerShell 1.0 is a component of the Windows operating system. This should have been installed either with the original software or during a Windows Update. If it is not installed you will not be able to install the SQL Server Management Studio Express software.
To install Windows PowerShell:
1. | Close all open programs as you may be required to re-boot the computer to complete the installation process. |
2. | Open the Microsoft website and locate the free download of Windows PowerShell 1.0 for your server. |
3. | Run the Windows Validation routine to create a validation code. |
4. | Enter your validation code to activate the Download button. Click Download. |
5. | The file opening window opens. Click Save File. The file will be downloaded.![]() |
6. | When the file has been downloaded, double click the file to start the installation.![]() |
7. | If the Open Executable File window opens, click OK to continue.![]() |
8. | If the Open File - Security Warning window opens, click Run to continue.![]() |
9. | The files are extracted. The Software Update Installation Wizard window opens. Click Next to start the installation.![]() |
10. | The License Agreement window opens. Select the option I Agree. Click Next to continue the installation.![]() |
11. | The Updating Your System window opens. When your current configuration has been inspected by the software the files will be installed.![]() |
12. | A window opens when the installation has finished. Click Finish to complete the installation. |
